SDC's work is necessary and valuable to communities and encourages participation and reach to audiences who don’t engage in theatre in buildings which can be off-putting, alien and even inaccessible to audiences. It’s so important to immerse folk in their everyday spaces. Your integrity, determination, generous spirit, and artistic qualities moved me.

"Signpulse: Between Sound and Silence" is influenced by Signdance Collective's R&D "Places, Faces and Broken Hearts" (funded by ACE in 2023) and is the company's first Contemporary Commedia-inspired Signdance Theatre production. The performance will tour directly within communities and in various outdoor spaces such as courtyards, forests, parks, small squares, and playgrounds.

The story revolves around a performance group exploring how sound, light and shadow impact communication. The show features a skilled group of Deaf and Hearing Signdance Theatre performers collaborating to create a cast of epic Commedia-inspired characters with a contemporary edge.

Incorporating physical theatre, voice, sign dance, shadow and light imagery, New Commedia character masks, and costumes designed for winter outdoor shows  Signpulse will be a street theatre experience that combines dance and shadow puppetry, sharing the joys and challenges of communication with our audiences.

SDC Next Generation

The Rothschild Foundation funded the "Next Generation" training and development module focused on public engagement and production-touring processes. The program centres on training six Deaf, Disabled, young and emerging artists to become the next generation of Signdance-Theatre practitioners. They learn about Signdance Theatre, inclusive practice and creating cultural impact.  Their involvement in national/international  SDC  events is the next step toward increasing our public engagement capacity, continuing this accessible art form and securing SDC's legacy for the future.
